Drawing the Face

Beginning Class / Intermediate Class

Our focus will be upon study of each feature of the face and pertinent anatomical structure, essential to effective drawing of the subject. We’ll engage in drawing processes and techniques foundational to rendering form, and subtleties of expression. You will gain a basic comprehension of pertinent anatomy. You’ll learn basic techniques for drawing the face from the frontal, three-quarter, and profile views. You will understand the importance of nuance when creating expressive drawings.

As drawings progress, we’ll deepen our study of the aspects of each feature of the face and pertinent anatomical structure while integrating the perspective and foreshortening which occurs with the tilt of the head. We’ll continue to work on rendering subtlety of form through increased focus on the contours, major and minor, of which the face is comprised.

You will learn how to draw hair and render smiles.
